The Rebels were led by senior co-captain John Lipsey, who earned medalist honors after shooting a 33. In addition, senior George Madeyski shot a 44 and junior Danny Gorski shot a 49.

"(Lipsey) really started shooting well towards the end. He really started hitting his targets," said head coach Tom Parillo. "We grouped four scores in the 40s and we need that to be competitive."

As far as breaking the four-match skid, Parillo said, "It was a big relief for our players because we knew we can be competitive and do well. The win gave us a good feeling going into conference."

The Rebels began Metro Suburban Conference play against Timothy Christian on Tuesday with a 2-4 overall record.

"Timothy Christian is very consistent," Parillo said.

Before the conference opener, the Rebels participated in the Willowbrook Invite on Saturday and finished fifth among 10 teams.

"It's a nice tournament in the beginning of the year," Parillo said. "This was a scramble-style tournament, which emphasizes team communication. So you are able to discuss strategy, but it forces (the team) to communicate."

Leading up to conference play, Parillo said the first three weeks of the season were aimed at getting the team in position and preparing for conference play.

"In the last few weeks, we were training to be in the best position to be competitive when conference begins," he said.

For Parillo, the important thing is for his team to be competitive the rest of the year.

"As long as we remember to play the course smart and not let mental mistakes create more mental mistakes, then I think we can continue our goal to be competitive," he said.
