| The Reunion Story |
|
Have you ever been to one of your high school reunions? If you have, you know what a fun experience it can be. If you haven't, you don't know what you are missing. Class reunions are usually held at five or ten year intervals from the year you graduated with the most popular ones being the 10th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th and 40th. In 2005, Ridgewood's first graduating class celebrated their 45th.
Some people resist the invitation to attend their reunion with excuses like: "I didn't have a lot of friends in high school", "I'm embarrassed with how I look after all these years", "I never was good at these types of social events", or even, "I don't want to stand around talking to a bunch of people who are going to brag about how successful they are". Not to worry! What you will find is that what makes the reunion fun is that you all shared a common experience; you attended Ridgewood during the same years. Those shared experiences become the basis for a fun time. You'll find yourself talking to people you knew well and surprisingly, to people you hardly knew at all; and it will all seem normal and comfortable. After all, years have gone by and you all have survived the "real world", which gives you something else in common.
This is where the Ridgewood High School comes in. The school can provide support to members of any class who are planning for their upcoming reunion. Reunion planners will have access to the school's extensive database of names, addresses, and phone numbers of alumni. Labels and lists of classmates may be provided to the reunion planning committee.
Some classes have sponsored reunions activities that either replace or supplement the typical "dinner" reunions held on Friday or Saturday nights at big hotels or banquet halls and have experienced good responses from classmates to these alternative activities. In 2000 one class had a tailgate party during the homecoming football game. This same class also had a dinner on Friday evening. Other classes have chosen to have a get together at a local restaurant after the game. Still others have chosen to have a dinner on Saturday evening after the game with others planning their activities at a time other than homecoming. All of these events have been quite successful with renewal of acquaintances being the top priority.
