Current Drama Happenings

By Monica Szaflik

May 1998

A Night of One Acts was held on May 1st 1998 at 7:30p.m., in the RHS Auditorium. It was put together by many of the Senior Drama Club members. It included many short skits. Reflections of Life, which is an evening of monologues and one-acts dealing with the often comic and sometimes tragic daily struggles of living, which was scheduled to be performed on May 15, 1998 at 7:30 in the Auditorium, has been postponed till the beginning the 1998-1999 school year. It will be directed by a new director, since Angee Lewandowski, the current Drama Club director, is moving to Arizona. She will be missed by many. The Drama Club banquet is being held on Friday, May 22. Tickets are $10, but Drama Club members, and the parents of the seniors in Drama get in for free. For more information, contact Angee Lewandowski or Heather Sinkovits. Just a reminder, meetings are still on Wednesdays, at 3:15, in the room across from the library.

April 1998

On Saturday, April 18, the Ridgewood High School Drama Club will be holding a car was from 9a.m. till 3 p.m. in the parking lot. The Elections for the Drama Club officers will be held on April 29. Students wishing in the Drama Club that wish to run for an office, have to be a 2 year member of the club to run for President, all other positions are open for members of all ages. The Banquet Award Nominations will be announced. There will be a Showcase called "Reflections on Life" about real life situations along with a one act play called "The Powers That Be" written by Mike Pauley. The performance day is scheduled as April 17. Just a reminder, that Drama Club meetings are held every Wednesday at 3:15.

February 1998

The Drama Club performed it’s second annual "V-show" February 7. The Variety Show was designed to be a fund raiser for the Drama students who are still trying to pay off the trip to ISU in January. Whatever money is left over, will go towards a Drama Club Banquet in May. The Banquet will be an award ceremony for gifted and talented actors who have worked hard to make the Drama Club a success. There will many categories from best dresser, to funniest line, to best kiss on stage. The Banquet is only for Drama Club members and their families, unless you are invited by a Drama Club member. The Tickets are $35. I’d also like to add that the V-show was a huge success, and we raised a lot of money.

January 1998

The Drama Club will be performing a Variety Show on February 7 at Ridgewood High School. Auditions were held in the auditorium on January 21. Over 30 people tried out, but only 20 acts will make it to the Show. The Variety show was formally known as "Korns’A’Poppin" except this year only Ridgewood students will be allowed to perform in the show.

Also, I’d like to point out that the recent trip the Drama Club took down to Bloomington where they performed "Unspoken for Time" was a smash hit. Getting to go to ISU was a great privilege and honor. Only nine out of forty schools in Illinois were chosen to attend the festival. Thank you to all of those who helped us with the fund-raising to allow us to go.

October 1997

Drama Club tried to hold it’s second annual lock in, but unfortunately due to a death in the family and a sickness, it was canceled. Major Bummer! The lock in will try to be rescheduled soon. The drama club has been working for the past few weeks on a homecoming skit, let’s just say it involves a lot of Forrest Gump(don’t ask!) Rumor has it that the skit may be canceled, because the lock in was there soul chance of practicing for the performance to held on Monday October 6, 1997. Meetings are still held on Wednesdays after school in the Auditorium.

December 1, 1997
Drama Club’s performance of "Unspoken for Time", performed the weekend of November 20th-22nd was a big hit. There has even been talk about taking the play down-state. The Drama Club’s next concern is the Variety Show. The V-show will be a " talent show" fund-raiser. Also the lock-in that had been scheduled earlier this year, but postponed due to lack of chaperones, has been re-scheduled on December 13. The Drama club is planning on holding a banquet awarding select drama club members awards for categories from "best dressed" to "funniest line", etc. The Drama Club is currently selling candy, gourmet food, and bath an body works items. They will also be selling poinsettias during the Christmas season for $11.50 each. As you can see, the Drama Club has been hard at work, and your support is needed in helping us to make it down-state, remember, every little bit helps.
